PRESS RELEASE :GRADUATION INFO

 

The University of The Gambia (UTG) is pleased to inform all graduation students and parents that Seventh

Graduation Ceremony and other related activities are scheduled as follows; This year we have related

activities spread over a two-day period and these are as follows:

 

1. Day 1, February 15, 2012

I. Inauguration of the University Village Project, funded by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela

and constructed by the Gambian Army Corps of Engineers;

 

II. Launching of the UTG Science, Technology & Innovation Park;

 

III. The 4th Chancellor’s Lecture to be delivered by His Excellency, The President and Chancellor

of The University of The Gambia, Sheikh Prof. Alhaji Dr. Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh;

 

IV. Presentation of Academic Excellence Awards for graduating students of the UTG and The

Gambia College; and awards recognizing academic staff’s intellectual contributions evidenced

by publication of their research in peer-reviewed academic journals.

 

V. Launching the UTG Digital Initiative – The Chancellor will distribute net-books/laptops to all

full-time academic and essential administrative staff.

 

2. Day 2, February 16, 2012

I. The Graduation Ceremony with the Chancellor of The University of The Gambia, Sheikh Prof.

Alhaji Dr. Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh conferring degrees and certificates/diplomas to over a

thousand graduates.

 

II. Presentation of awards by the Chancellor to UTG employees who have served the institution

for 10 years uninterrupted.

campus – Brikama on Tuesday 14th February, 2012 scheduled as follows:

UTG Graduating Students: Briefing commences from 10 am – 12 pm

Gambia College Graduating Students: Briefing Commences from 12 pm – 2 pm.

Senior officials from the government of The Gambia and the University of The Gambia met April 28 with Earth Institute director Jeffrey Sachs, CIESIN director Robert Chen, and other Columbia University faculty and staff. The visit was organized by CIESIN to explore opportunities for collaboration in research, education, and capacity building. The delegation included Mariama Khan, Secretary-General and Head of the Civil Service; Mamadou Tangara, Honorable Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology; and Muhammadou Kah, Vice Chancellor of the University of The Gambia. Informal discussions were held with Mamadou Diouf, director of Columbia's Institute for African Studies; Madeline Thomson of the International Research Institute for Climate and Society; Wade McGillis of the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory; and Beth Fisher-Yoshida, academic director of Columbia's Master of Science Program in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution. CIESIN staff member Malanding Jaiteh, who was born and raised in The Gambia, helped arrange the visit and, along with Alex de Sherbinin of CIESIN, described possible training and educational activities that CIESIN could help develop in collaboration with partners in The Gambia.
