Welcome to Department of Education ,Since its establishment in 2001, the Department of Education has been gradually evolving into a centre of excellence for Teacher Education and Training in the context of the impending Integrated UTG.
PROGRAMMES CURRENTLY OFFERED
The Department currently offers two main programmes:
• Bachelor of Education – B.Ed
• Certificate in School Management – CSM
. Bachelor of Education – B.Ed
The Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) is a four (4) year programme designed for people interested in furthering their studies in education.
It is a Professional Development programme for people who want careers in Teaching at Senior Secondary Schools. Each student specializes in two Teaching Subjects – a Major and a Minor.
The B.Ed programme is currently under review and it is expected to be replaced with the BA. Ed, BSc. Ed (Hons).
The programme has two a school experiences (Teaching Practices) during which students are attached to schools to gain experience.
Admission Requirements (B.Ed)
• Five (5) credit passes at GCE O'Level/WASSCE or its equivalent including credit pass in the candidate's area of study and a credit pass in English
• Four (4) Credit passes at the GCE O'Level/WASSCE including a pass in English and a pass at Advanced Level in the candidate's area of study.
• Candidates with HTC in two teaching subjects with CGPA of 3.2 and above.
Certificate in School Management (CSM)
CSM is meant to train head teachers in school management and related areas.
Admission to this Program is mainly open to candidates recommended by the Department of State for Basic and Secondary Education, but candidates are subjected to take the University's written and oral examinations.
Other fees paying trainees from non-governmental schools are welcomed to apply through the University registrar and be informed of the costs and arrangements.
